Recently a group of our members headed off to the lovely, (and significantly warmer), City of Shepparton. The itinerary included a visit the Shepparton Art Museum, (SAM), to view the Brett Whiteley exhibition, which did not disappoint. A renowned Australian Artist, represented in collections held by all major Australian Galleries, and also winning each of the Archibald, Wynne, and Sulman prizes twice. To date, Whiteley is the only artist to win all 3 awards in the same year. A further venture into SAM to view the other exhibitions also provided many highlights.
Next day was a visit to the Museum of Vehicle Evolution, (MOVE). With displays ranging from Cars, Motorcycles, Bicycles, Loel Thompson Costume Collection, Furphy’s, Kenworth Truck Pavilion, Clayton Gramophones, Telephones & Radio, and more, this place had all of our members mesmerised for hours. To hear some of the stories behind many of the exhibitions from the volunteers was just incredible. From a 10,000 plus item fashion collection, to a Prime Mover that had the hauling capacity of 200 tonnes, Penny Farthings, Hot Rods, and so much more, all on loan from private collections, it was amazing.
A few wonderful meals out with great friends, as well as much laughter, the few days passed quickly and in no time, we were all back to an expected overnight temperature of -2°. Can’t wait for the next trip!
