Brass Band at our Monthly Meeting
At our May Monthly meeting, we decided to not have a Guest Speaker and instead we had the Brass Section of the Ballarat City Band perform for us. They played for about 45 minutes, and everybody enjoyed the music. It included some old and some new. It was terrific.
2023 Cup Day
November is when start thinking about the spring racing carnival. At the November General Meeting we had a speech by Rhonda Comitti. She gave a wonderful and very interesting recollection about her life as a jockey and then as an accountant. She has had a very busy life, but she showed how just about anything can be done if you want it to.
Also, many members at the meeting had their Cup Day glad rags on. Congratulations go to the following “winners”, Fanciest Headwear award to Carmen S., Ladies Best Dressed award to Noreen L., and Men’s Best Dressed award to Mick G. Everybody who participated should be congratulated as they all looked very good!
Probus Week 2023
At our meeting 10 October 2023, Ballarat Gardens Probus Club celebrated Probus Month.
President Geoff H. opened our meeting wearing his special gold celebratory hat and thanked members who had worn blue and yellow clothes to celebrate Probus month. Past president Wendy S. then led the members in singing our club song to the tune of ‘Michael, row the boat ashore’.
Morning tea featured a blue and gold decorated table with matching serviettes and food ‒ even the biscuits were blue and gold ‒ and was enjoyed by all.
Ballarat Town Hall clock was lit in blue and gold for the first week of October to celebrate Probus month.
AFL Finals and Footy Tipping
Well, the next monthly general meeting will take place during the Australia Football League finals. It would be great if everybody could wear something to do with your AFL club at the meeting. Scarves, beanies, badges and banners would be fantastic. It doesn’t matter what team you follow, you just need to let everybody know.
Also, the club’s footy tipping ended with Round 24 of the Home and Away games. The prizes for the winners are $225 for 1st Prize (David W.), $135 for 2nd Prize (Ken McD.) and $90 for 3rd Prize (Carmen S.). Congratulations to our winners, and to everybody who participated this year. Hopefully you’ll be back next year. Prizes will be distributed in the next few days.
