State Rose Garden & Werribee Zoo

Today, seven of our members joined the Probus Club of Southern Cross on a bus trip to visit the Victorian State Rose Garden, and also the Werribee Zoo.  With clear skies, and 27° forecast, we could not have picked a better Autumn Day for this outing.  Morning tea as soon as we stepped off the coach, just perfect.

Nearing the end of bloom season, there were still a vast number of beautiful roses on show.  The gardens, tended by mainly volunteers, are just spectacular, where one could spend hours taking in the scent whilst admiring these magnificent roses.

On to the Werribee Zoo, which is just wonderful.  A mixture of “Huge” exhibits, as well as “Open Plains”, there is something here for everyone.  Unfortunately, we weren’t early enough to catch the new Lion cubs, but there were many other exhibits to keep us all entertained. Up close to the Lion’s, Gorilla’s, Hippo’s, Elephant’s, Ostrich’s, Zebra’s, just to name a few. Then there was the bus trip around the “Savannah” Open Plain area, which is massive.  Whilst the road could do with grading, (my back teeth are still rattling), it was still wonderful to view, up close, the American Bison, Eland Antelope, Southern White Rhinoceros, Giraffe, and many others.

A safe journey home, and a huge “Thank You” to Jill, from the Southern Cross Probus Club, for organising a wonderful day.
