Despite the rain, 20 members of the Club caught the 7.40 train to Melbourne from Ballarat. A good trip down, but Southern Cross station was a problem because all the escalators going down were not being used. So, we had to figure out how to get to the Metro platform that we needed. Well after a little while, we did, and shortly thereafter, we arrived at Jolimont.
We had a about an hour to wait for our Tour, so it was off to the Coffee Shop. Later we met with the Tour Guide, and she took us all over Members section of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). We went down onto the ground, even though we weren’t allowed on the turf, it was great. Our group then went through many rooms, including the Long Room and, the Players changerooms and the entry to the playing field. Everybody saw all the places that we’d probably only seen on TV.
By then it was lunchtime and we went to the Trumble Cafe at the MCG. The meals were delicious and after that we went to the Australian Sports Museum for our self-guided tour. It had areas about cricket, athletics, Olympic Games, Horse Racing and Australian Rules Football. There were lots of kids there, which was fine, but do they have lots of energy.
Then it was a quick walk up to Jolimont station, Metro train round to Southern Cross and the Vline train to Ballarat.
A very successful day which everybody enjoyed.
