Frida Kahlo Exhibition

A group of our members made the journey across to the Bendigo Art Gallery yesterday to view the Frida Kahlo exhibition.  Though few of us knew much about her, the exhibition was certainly extensive and enjoyed by all that attended.

Kahlo was known mainly as the wife of the famous Mexican Muralist, Diego Rivera. Her dramatic sense of fashion and embodiment of a captivating “Mexicanness” also positioned her as a fashion innovator.  The twin roles of ‘Señora Rivera’ and fashion persona, largely overshadowed Kahlo’s identity as an artist.

Today however, Kahlo is hailed as a trailblazing icon and as one of the most significant and sought-after artists of the twentieth century.

Lunch at the Rifle Brigade hotel followed, where a beautiful meal was enjoyed by everyone.
